The Author

My name is Ron, a simple guy with a long-standing interest in Bible study.  I am thankful to have been raised by a father and mother who loved the Lord, and taught me from an early age to do the same. For my first 20 years, I grew in the fellowship of independent Christian Churches in and around Eugene, Oregon. Later, while in college, I enjoyed the fellowship of Campus Crusade for Christ, an Evangelical Free Church, and a Conservative Baptist church. After college, I served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

Since 1974 I have worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry. My wife Debi and I live on the Central California Coast, where we are active in Grace Baptist Church.

I am a member of the Pocket Testament League, and I'm developing my personal evangelism skills with the help of The Way of the Master.  My other / past interests have included volunteering with a Boy Scout troop and district, web site development, backpacking, reading, and amateur radio.

The book, other than the Bible, which has made the largest impact on my life, is Pilgrim’s Progress, by John Bunyan.

I enjoy talking about spiritual things, Bible prophecy, conservative politics, and making an impact on our society.

The story behind this web site

Several years ago, two of my brothers and I were on a day hike in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness Area in the Oregon Cascades.  The weather was perfect, the sky was a beautiful deep blue.  Everything was ideal ... except the mosquitoes.  They were swarming and biting.  We were glad that we had each packed our insect repellant.  About five miles out of the trailhead, we met a hiker coming toward us on the narrow trail.  You don't meet many people along the trail, so we decided to stop and say "hi".
The guy appeared to be in his 40's.  His hair and beard were long and dirty.  But he was well equipped for hiking and living on the trail.  As we exchanged a few words with him, we sensed that he was a little wild and desperate when he asked if we had any insect repellant.  At that moment, I thought, "why should we give him any repellant?  We came prepared.  Let him get his own."  Then I noticed a long knife in a sheath on his belt.  I began to rethink the situation when my brother Nick replied.
"Sure.  You can have our repellant.  We're headed back to our car, and won't be needing it after today, anyway."
Nick handed the guy his tube of Off! lotion and said to me, "Ron, give him yours, too."  I reached for my tube of Off!, and gave it to the guy, more out of obedience than compassion.  The hiker took the tubes of repellant and thanked us repeatedly, as if we had saved his life.
We went our way.  And I asked Nick why he had done that.  He replied, "Why not?  He needed help and we had the ability to help him."  I suddenly felt very small and very selfish.  That encounter on the trail taught me to provide help any time I am able.
